This thread was just waiting to happen! Personally, I hate politics, but I am interested about this Hung Parliament situation going on. So. Will we have a coalition government? Or will another election be called? OR, there are talks of changing the voting process. We could be facing proportional representation here!

Also, if there is a coalition governement, who should it be?

Lib dems and labour?
or lib dems and tories?

This is a very friendly board and without wishing to stiffle anyone might I suggest that the traditional dinner party rules of 'no policitcs or religion' might not be a bad idea

How about instead, if people want to talk about that stuff, I create a new area, clearly labelled as one that covers these heated topics?  I am with you, it personally doesn't interest me, but that isn't a reason to say it cannot be discussed.

It does interest me, but I've seen too many online forums decend into nastiness when things like this get discussed, so unless I'm on a forum that is setup for this sort of talk I tend to stay clear. I'd hate for any acrimony generated in a politics thread to bleed out into the rest of the board, as to date it's been really friendly.

It's not the topic, it's the people. I've had many discussions about "big" issues on many fora - and equally I've seen fora descend into anarchy over a typo.

If topics get banned, it's generally a bad sign - though it is reasonable to say 'do it over there'

Back in the usenet days, of course, each user had a killfile - and if someone was really 'wrong', in they'd go along with any followups. I could pretend they'd fallen through a big crack in time.
