News:

Coming up in Episode 208.......it's almost here! After 7 episodes and nearly two months of Doctor Who on Saturday evenings, the final episode of series 7 airs this coming weekend. Join us in the campervan as we review THE NAME OF THE DOCTOR!  My money's on Bruce.....

Feedback always welcome (keep it brief!) at feedback@thedoctorwhopodcast.com - audio feedback under two minutes is prefered and stands a far better chance of making it onto a future DWP.

YES! I've just done a victory dance much like Tom did XD
The NDL Podcast is on iTunes!
We recorded it two weeks ago, and it has taken me all that time to lower the bitrate, create the RSS feed, get to record the output sound, and all that technical stuff! But now it works!

Just search 'TheNDLPodcast' in iTunes and you should be able to find it! I'm really excited about this! XD

My current subsciptions are:
DWP (obviously)
DWO
Bigger on the Inside (Fortnightly Who viewing marathon cast featuring two American fans--one long-time fan and one "newbie".  They're currently mid-way through the Pertwee era.  Very entertaining.)
The MuppetCast
Sesame Street Video Podcast

I also will selectively download shows/interviews from National Public Radio here in the U.S.  I tend not to subscribe to them though, because I'd never keep up.

Over the past couple of months, I've added the Flashing Blade and Two Minute Time Lord to my subscriptions and have been making my way through their back episodes.  I've just downloaded a couple of Trev's Fantragic podcasts to sample as well.

The Blade! Hurrah! Does noone listen to staggering stories though?

Made my way through several of these, and heartily recommend them to anyone who hasn't listened to them.  The three-episode Star Trek retrospective was brilliant!  Trev, get your mates online and do some more, please.

Have been trying to give other Dr Who podcasts a shot. I started listening the DWO when Paul and Seb were on the first time around but I'm not currently listening to them as I've followed Trevor, James and Tom to here.

DWO - As much as I used to really like the DWO, I find that I don't like the format and the presenters are a bit dry.

The Doctor Who Podcast - Followed Trevor, James and Tom from DWO. By far my favorite. Love the by-play among the presenters. The presentation is good and length is acceptable. (Honestly not kissing up.)

The Flashing Blade - Have only listened to one episode but good grief they can ramble on. And Tony keeps interrupting the others and making noises. Found it annoying. Not sure I'll listen to more.

The Gallifreyan Embassy - Listened to a handful before becoming annoyed with the endless ramble.

Radio Free Skaro - Have only listened to one but so far I like them. Stay on topic and don't tend to ramble. Bit worried about length of some episodes. As long as they don't start to just ramble, I'll continue listening. Being American, it's nice to have an American perspective.

The Ood Cast - Only one so far but I very much intend to listen to more. Love the by-play among the presenters and the length is good.

Tin Dog - Very straight-forward, easily digestible. Could listen to the accent all day.

Still have to give the 2 Minute Time Lord a shot.

I believe the "Three Who Rule" are Canadian. Keep listening, they bash American-made media quite often. (Being American myself, I tend to notice these things.) But it is a fun podcast, provided they stick to DW-related topics. On anything else, they tend to become insufferable.

Not to mention the songs are awesome. They collected them for download -- strongly recommend these to all.

2MTL is quite good, but I must admit its brevity is its main drawback. I prefer the longer installments, but Your Mileage May Vary.

I like the brevity, as it forces Chip to really focus his thoughts to make and support his point.  I liken 2MTL to some years ago when newscasts would feature an "editorial" spot where one of the newsmen or station staff would present a debate-style argument on an issue in the news, as is traditionally found in the op-ed pages of newspapers.

Also, it makes for convenient listening, as I usually listen to 2MTL when I've finished listening to a longer podcast when I'm either almost to work or almost home, and don't want to listen to only the first five minutes of a long podcast before my drive ends.

So I'm not the only one then.  Podshock was the first podcast I tried listening to (during the period where they were linked on the OG homepage), and actually dissuaded me from listening to other podcasts for a long time, since I assumed they would mostly be similar.  There's just something about it that leaves me watching the progress bar to see how long is left in the episode as I'm listening.  I know they have a more than decent number of listeners (and good on them), but it just doesn't suit my taste.

I just recently tried a Podshock cast and was thoroughly disappointed with the level of quality commentary. As much as I pound on the Three Who Rule for their bashing of virtually everything that isn't DW (and a fair bit that is), they are miles and away more polished in the art of podcasting than the Podshack crew. If anyone should be confined to a 2 minute time limit, it's those chaps. (No offense to them, or their fans. It's only my opinion.)

At the risk of taking the conversation off-topic (but only a teeny bit) what's the ideal length of a podcast?  The extremes appear to be Podshock who produce some of the longest shows on the circuit - and the Two Minute Timelord that goes on for, well, about two mins.   We at the DWP usually aim (emphasis on aim) for around 45 minutes, but extend that on special occassions like the Series Five finale for instance.

One other question - how do you all feel about plugs for other podcasts and clips of stories we review (both on-screen episodes and Big Finish)?  I always find myself fast-forwarding through sponsor segments and clips when I listen to other podcasts.....

I prefer a podcast such as DWP, with 3 presenters and a topic to discuss, to be 45-60 minutes.  Any longer than 90 minutes and it's usually not listened to.  If there is less to discuss keep it briefer.  A 30 minute show is great but a 45 minute show that has 30 minute's worth of content is painful.

I don't mind clips for other shows or Big Finish type things.  As long as they're not too repetitive.  An ad for the same show every week gets irritating.  The shorter the better too.

I think around an hour is just right, but that's partially because that's the length of my work commute, when I'm usually listening.  If you guys are on a roll, feel free to go into overtime.

I like the story clips for review segments--it helps set the mood.  Plugs for other podcasts are fine, as long as they're varied.  It can be a bit daunting to troll through iTunes to sample other casts, and if a promo gives me some sort of sense of what to expect, I'm more likely to give it a shot.
