Episode #155
« on: August 02, 2012, 03:13:37 AM »
This episode we are in DVD review mode where we look at the Pertwee story The Dæmons and the McCoy story, The Happiness Patrol.  Are they worthy of going five rounds with, and will they make you happy?  Listen in to find out.

We also have a bit of a chat about the recent opening ceremony for the London Olympics, and share our thoughts on the recent passing of Mary Tamm, companion to the fourth Doctor.

Not sure if this has been raised elsewhere on the forum, but on the question of River Song getting Amy and Rory home. In The Pandorica Opens, she gets a Time Agent's Vortex Manipulator from Maldovar. Who is to say that she didn't go back and give it to her former self, so that she has it all along until the Doctor destroys it in the Big Bang, hence the reason she is travelling conventionally by her final days in the library? That's my theory anyway.

I was going to point this out, it also answers Trevor's question of 'when was it stated that River could travel in time' ;)

I heard that the house in the Olympics was projected like a tardis as the sound effect happened they just didn't show it on video which was silly. I was very happy with what they did though especially the inclusion of the version of wind in the willows I grew on.

OK, I just heard this episode after hearing some of the more recent ones. (Timey-wimey!)

Regarding the Olympics, there was one aspect of the issue that I was surprised you guys didn't bring up: According to the Whoniverse, the Doctor attended the Games and even carried the torch - but as David Tennant! That happened in the episode "Fear Her." Although the episode aired in '06, it was set in 2012.

I know that episode is not a fan favorite, which is why it may be blocked from your mind. ;)

I was wondering if that had something to do with the lack of appearance by the Doctor at the Games. At this point, David Tennant is trying to distance himself from the role, and it would be kind of insulting to Matt Smith to say, "No, this other guy is still really the Doctor."

That probably had nothing to do with it, but it's fun to speculate.  :P

Thanks to everyone who explained how River traveled through time. I must admit to having been baffled in "A Good Man Goes to War" as to how she got there, and how the Doctor expected her to transport everyone else!

Anyway, keep up the great work, podcasting crew!
