Rory and Amy:- Companions
« on: June 27, 2010, 02:26:19 PM »
Well is looks like two companions in the TARDIS for next season, what do we think of that, I'm looking forward to it should be a nice change. I think the trio will work well together and it should be big on laughs.

its a nice balance too as Rory is the loyal dog kind of, Amy is clever and confident, and the doctor is the driving force behind them!

Nah, Rory's there for the lighter toned, jocular, Christmas special.  I don't think he'll last into series 6.....

I want to see a 2 companion TARDIS but not one with a married couple. I'm not looking forward to seeing the Doctor continue to play a mix of gooseberry and counsellor. Amy and her hyper dramatic way of speaking and her stroppiness is beginning to grate now. I'm hoping they're both dispatched in the Christmas special. Not likely though as contracts seem to extend past that. I don't feel the need for relationship issues clouding the story. I can see myself being as sick of Amy + Rory as I was of Rose + Family + Mickey.

what I was thinking :) unless he was like really desperate and wants to be hated by the nation! maybe they split up....that would be kind of funny in an ironic way considering everything they've done to be together :D

Speaking as an unbiased viewer, I'm kinda hoping Rory sticks around for season 6.  :D

Seriously, I like the married-couple-as-companions dynamic and I have complete faith in the Moff; if he can't make it work, then no one can.

I think I agree. Now that they are married, they could just leave all the 'romantic tension' behind and just treat them as a solid couple with no relationship issues that need to be addressed. I think having two characters together like that could provide a good foil for the doctor.

I think I prefer that to Rory continuing his Mickey-alike arc by staying home while his other half goes galavanting around the universe.

I'm with TPO.  There's no reason Rory and Amy as a comitted couple couldn't work as companions.  Ian and Barbara were two of the all-time best companions, and it's quite clear that they were a couple by season two. :)

I have to say, I'm thrilled to bits at having an established TARDIS crew going into a new season.  No regeneration crises, no character introductions--just getting on with the story!

Hmmm, a couple in the TARDIS? the closest I've gotten to this is Mickey and Rose, and that didn't really work out well. Hope they do do it, can't wait to see how it pans out :D
