Colony in Space = Doomsday Weapon book
« on: August 17, 2011, 02:37:36 AM »
In exploring the upcoming Classic Who DVD releases, I discovered that my Doctor Who and the Doomsday Weapon book (by Hulke) is actually "Colony in Space", which is being released soon.  Cool!  I can see why the title was changed, since the "weapon" in question doesn't really figure as prominently as the title would suggest.  But maybe that wasn't the reason for the change?

I enjoyed the book; I suspect this may be one of those stories that reads better than it plays out on screen.  Further exploration on the Classic Series site somewhat supports that theory... but I'd be willing to watch it anyway, of course!

(PS: This is one of those books with the Harlan Ellison intro.  I rather liked it!)

Colony in Space is one of several that had the titles changed for the books. I never have really looked into just why the titles were changed. Must have been some reason, I'm sure. But look that the ones that got changed.

TV Title                                   Book Title
The Dead Planet                      The Daleks (previously Dr Who in an Amazing Adventure with the Daleks)
The Crusade                            The Crusaders (not a big change, not sure it counts)
The Web Planet                       The Zarbi
Moonbase                               The Cybermen
Spearhead From Space            The Auton Invasion
Colony in Space                       The Doomsday Weapon
Invasion of the Dinosaurs        The Dinosaur Invasion (not really too much change there)
Terror of the Zygons                The Loch Ness Monster

Don't know what purpose the title changes served except maybe in the case of The Daleks. I think it was the first Doctor Who book. I enjoyed Harlan Ellison's intro, too, having read it in a Pinnacle release of one of the books.
