Nce again I am starting to think I am the only one who has researched this...

Rumours are that the doctor is trapped on earth without the tardis... It's supposed
to be like human nature or family of blood ut with the doctor as a time lord still... It also features James Corden

James Corden... He is in Gavin and Stacy, as Smithy
he also does lots of speeches for charity and stuff, especially children in need

The Lodger...what storyline would that be?

That would be an adaptation of the DWM #368 comic of the same name also written by Gareth Roberts (See a summary of the comic HERE)

It features the Doctor playing Football.

I like James Corden in Gavin and Stacey but I hope his character in Doctor Who is nothing like Smithy

I'm guessing that this is season 5's 'light' (aka cheap) episode? i.e. the one where the regular characters take a bit of a back seat so as to get a breather, and the scale of the episode is generally smaller to save money.

The other candidate would be 'Vincent and the Doctor', but I think that's the Cyberman ep so that seems unlikely.

The history of these is a bit variable. On the one hand you have the desperate low of 'Love and Monsters' on the other there was 'Blink', one of the best new Who stories yet. It'll be interesting to see which way this goes, although I can't say the apparent setup filling me with optimism.

Anyone else think that its no coincidence that an episode featuring the Doctor playing football is going to go out just as the World Cup is starting?. (Is this the first time football has appeared in DW?)

I don't think this episode has deliberately been identified as the 'light' episode, Amy's Choice was a fairly light episode (In terms of VFX).

Also, for the previous 3 series they have filmed with the Christmas special which prompted the inclusion of the Doctor-lite episode. There was no extra episode filmed for this current series so a 'lite' episode is not necessarily required.

I think the fact that Matt Smith loves soccer would have allowed the production team to capitalise on the fact that the World Cup is happening at the same time, yes!

Another small thing to note about this episode is that it will feature the TARDIS console created by the Blue Peter winner:

There won't be a Doctor-light episode, cuase End of Time was the one that would have been in the same production block (Love and Monsters & Christmas Invasion, Blink and Runaway Bride, Midnight, Turn Left and VOTD were filmed together), but obv it didn't have the usual regulars

My first thought after seeing the preview for the Lodger was that this was going to be a Doctor light episode.  I'm glad it isn't! :)  This episode looks very very interesting.
