Barack Obama, Time Lord

I found this article yesterday -- from an American newspaper! -- and thought some of you might find it amusing:

Barack Obama is a Time Lord!

Well he's already been the Master for a bit, so yes indeed he is.  Anyway, it's high time we had a black Doctor!

Wait, what?

A black Doctor, OK. Sure, no problems.

But an American Doctor? Ehm

I can't see that as being doable. Which is no disrespect to Americans, I'm married to one!

But Who is one of those 'quintessentially British' things that I don't think could translate.

Sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect in the post above, but I wasn't sure which one of those smileys to use.

I don't think the article meant to suggest than an American would ever be an appropriate choice to play the Doctor. In fact, it mentioned that the show is a British national treasure; hardly an endorsement of American participation.

Besides, there's already been an attempt to do an American version, albeit unintentionally. And it was over 40 years ago.
